Biology and management of grapevine trunk diseases

This workshop will focus on understanding the biology of trunk fungal diseases, identifying the symptoms, epidemiology and factors affecting its spread, options and methods for its control in UK vineyards.

Dr Richard Smart is Australian by birth, and now lives in Cornwall. His viticulture career spans 48 years, including research, teaching and consulting. His travels have taken him to many of the world’s wine regions, and over 40 countries. He has a special interest in canopy management, and cool climate viticulture, and more recently grapevine trunk diseases. He is the Viticulture Editor for all 4 editions of the Oxford Companion to Wine, edited by Jancis Robinson.
