Traceability & Quality Assurance Workshop with David Cowderoy and John Rowe

The workshop is being held at Hattingley Valley Wines on Tuesday, 31 January, 2012, starting at 10:00 and finishing at 16:00.

Traceability and quality assurance are essential components of the wine production process, helping ensure the product is safe and of a desired quality standard.

The workshop will look at traceability, hazard analysis, quality assurance and accreditation processes. It will focus on the management of these issues in wine production and provide guidance on how to mitigate risks and prevent things going wrong. The workshop will also help wine producers develop and manage their own quality control processes and provide them with the tools and information required to do so.

Trainer: David Cowderoy

David Cowderoy has a post graduate diploma in Oenology and Viticulture from Roseworthy College, Australia, and a BSc in Soil Science and Plant Nutrition. He began his career at one of the UK earliest vineyards, Rock Lodge, and was central to the creation of Chapel Down, where he was winemaker until 1999. He has been a winemaker for over 20 years in most regions around the world, and worked out of countless wineries. He has his own 12ha domaine in the Minervois region of France. As group Winemaker at Waverly a division of Scottish & Newcastle he was in charge of QA and QC, HACCP for an annual production of 2 million cases.

Trainer: John Rowe

John Rowe has worked at Procter & Gamble for 13 years in a variety of roles including manufacturing, process engineering, packaging design and optimisation. This includes supply chain capability work with both global packaging suppliers and national retail customers. In this capacity he has advised and built manufacturing & Quality Assurance capability systems in a number of packaging and industrial applications to reduce costs, improve efficiency and importantly reduce quality issues. He has experience of the various QA accreditation processes as well process control. Currently is responsible for Central and Eastern Europe current business packaging. John also is the owner of Westwell Wines, a premium sparkling and still wine vineyard on the North Downs near Ashford in Kent.
