Wine Analysis

The workshop is being held at Custom Crush on Thursday, 21 June, 2012, starting at 10:00 and finishing at 16:00.

The Wine Analysis Course at Custom Crushs laboratory will aim to provide winemakers in the UK with practical experience of running basic wine analysis, covering the most essential tests to ensure effective monitoring of the winemaking process.Working from grape juice analysis, through SO2 monitoring, and MLF assessment, stability tests, filterability, alcohol, etc. In addition, trainees will look at the theory of these tests, giving the reasoning behind the analysis and how to interpret the results.

Emma Rice is a graduate of Plumptons BSc in Viticulture and Oenology and holder of the WSET Diploma. Before attending Plumpton Emma worked in both the London wine trade and wine publishing. After graduating in 2006 she went to California and ran the laboratory at Cuvaison Estate Wines in the Napa Valley. This was followed by a cool-climate vintage in the winery and laboratory at Tamar Ridge Wines in Tasmania. Custom Crush UK Ltd was set up in late 2008, offering a mobile analysis service to the UK wine industry. Since then Emma has established a laboratory in West Sussex where she offers more comprehensive analysis.
